About the Retreat
This in-person day retreat will include ample time for meditation, Dharma talks and discussions as we harmonize our practice and life supported by the boundless view presented by the great masters of the past.
Description
In this retreat we will:
Explore the simple but profound basics of Dharma practice taught by the Buddha and Dharma ancestors through the lens of the boundless View of Dzogchen (The Great Completion).
Share lunch and get to know each other in a supportive and safe environment.
Practice the Dzogchen “Guru Yoga of the White Ah” together.
Read, discuss, and contemplate sacred texts in small groups.
Study the 3-fold division of View, Practice, and Conduct as a way to unify and integrate our heart, mind, and life with the Dharma.
“Ordinary awareness, free and open,
Is impossible to convey in words; you must know it for yourself
When fabrication and fixation are naturally allowed to expire—
That is what is called ‘knowing the essence of mind’.”
- Mipham Rinpoche

Franz Manfredi
Teacher
franz@longbeachmeditation.org
Franz's abiding interest in the spiritual traditions of South and Southeast Asia was sparked as a young child and he began his study and practice of Hindu meditation and philosophy at 8 years of age. During three pilgrimages to India beginning in 2002 he received various tantric empowerments and instruction in the Dakshina Kali and Barsana Vaishnava traditions.
After completing his undergraduate world music program at CalArts in 2004, Franz moved to the wonderful city of Long Beach. He began studying Buddhism in earnest in 2013, beginning with an in-depth study and practice of Early Buddhism represented in the Sutta Pitaka. In 2015 Franz was invited to teach at Long Beach Meditation by founder and teacher emeritus Dr Victor Byrd.
Constantly amazed and inspired by the incredible depth and diverse beauty in all of Buddhism, Franz continues his education under the expert guidance of Jokai Blackwell Roshi, and has taken refuge with Dzogchen master James Low. Franz’s passion to share the teachings of the Buddha springs from the revolution they have created in his own life.
