Meditation for Beginners I: Learn the Basics

In the Beginners’ Course we discuss the fundamentals of 'samatha' (calmness) and mindfulness meditation, our core practice. We will begin with basic meditation techniques which will help you establish calmness, clarity and mindfulness. We will ask you to establish a daily meditation practice.

With each successive class we will look at different styles of meditation, slowly integrating mindfulness practice into your concentration technique. By the end of the course our goal is for you to settle on the style that works best for you.

In addition to the meditation technique, you will learn the "why" as well as the "how." There will be ample time at the end of each class for questions and comments. We will have handouts for reading and suggestions for daily practice at the end of each session.

We offer the Beginners Two course to help you continue to deepen and broaden your understanding of mindfulness

This course establishes the foundation for the Beginners Two course, in which we further deepen our mindfulness with 'vipassana' (insight) practices.

This six-week course meets 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11 & 5/18, from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.

Course fee is $125.

Refunds are available up to a week before the course. After that time a $5 service fee will be incurred plus the cost of any classes attended.

We are on Atlantic between 7th and 8th Street in the Peace Builders building. Enter from the rear parking lot. Go up exterior stairs, to end of hall. Enter center through glass doors. See description for more details about locating us.

Note: We have a large parking lot with some street parking nearby. There is a bus stop directly in front, #61.

Important Note: There is no wheelchair access to the main meditation hall upstairs. An alternate sitting space may be made available upon request.

Class Preparation: We have cushions, zafus, benches and comfortable chairs on hand, but you are welcome to bring your own sitting gear.


As a non-profit organization we offer a limited number of full and partial scholarships to those who can demonstrate a financial need as well as a sincere interest in learning meditation.

If you are in need please consider how much of the full fee you can cover, remembering that we prefer to collect the full course fee if at all possible.
