Led Guiding Teacher Jokai Blackwell Sensei
This morning workshop will be a meditation focused exploration of a famous teaching of early Buddhism that all beings are fundamentally characterized by The Three Characteristics of Existence: Annica (Impermanence), Dhukka (Suffering), and Anatta (No-Self).
The workshop will include:
30 minute opening meditation session
Overview of The Three Characteristics of Existence: impermanence, suffering, and no-self. How do we apply the truth of these ancient teachings in our life?
Meditation practices on the direct realization of no-self.
Closing meditation on the additional Mahayana characteristic: Nirvana
As part of LBM’s foundational teachings series, this workshop will focus on the practice of meditation. To gain the most benefit, it is recommended to attend the Dharma study session led by Jampa Kelsang on November 3 offered two weeks before this meditation workshop. The Dharma study session will introduce the concepts used in this meditation practice workshop in depth. Although it is not necessary to attend the Dharma study session, it may be helpful.
This workshop is suitable for meditators of all levels.

Jokai Blackwell Sensei
Jokai Blackwell Sensei relocated to Southern California from the UK in 2000 to study with Charles Tenshin Fletcher Roshi at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center. After completing formal study, encompassing over a decade of residential training and service, he received Dharma Transmission (full authorization to teach) in the White Plum Lineage of Zen Buddhism. Jokai emphasizes the direct experience of awakening using contemporary language and time-honored methods.
